We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise!

Few songwriters who write for the church reach the pinnacle of recognition that Kirk and Deby Dearman have with their song, "We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise." Translated into every major language and sung in churches around the world, the song ranked in the Top Ten for ten straight years on the charts of Christian Copyright Licensing International and was CCLI's first #1 song.

It was 25 years ago that this song was published, and since then it has gone around the world. We often receive emails like the following email from a pastor:

"Thought of you while in Kigali, Rwanda recently where the only English-speaking song at the service which I attended was ... Yes, 'We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise.' "

What do you hold in your hands:
We are humbled and amazed with what God has done with our little song. He truly took our 'loaves and fishes' and fed multitudes. What do you hold in your hands today? You may feel that your 'loaves' are stale and your 'fish' are stinky, but how many could God feed with your gifts and talents? Our prayer is that God will use your gifts to bless the world. Yield them to Him and watch what He does!

We call it 'new and improved,' as it now has verses and has slowed down a lot! We guess it's because we've slowed down a bit too! :-)

From the story behind the song:
As I drove home from church that Sunday in 1981, I was thinking about the teaching that had gone deep into my spirit - a little concept that held a key to enduring life's difficulties - praise and sacrifice mingled together, just like in the tabernacle! Wow, what a concept. I began to sing the words, "We bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord" and, within a total of no more than five minutes, I had written the four-line chorus. There in my little Honda Civic, cruising along the old Dallas - Ft. Worth Turnpike, the now classic song was born. I affectionately call it my "car-tune." Read more here . . .
